16-03-19 Sing Your Heart Out
Cranborne Workshop: Sarah and Gilo
Sarah Pennington and Gilo return to lead a day of vibrant songs to nourish the heart and bring joy to the spirit. Their singing days are always popular and fill up fast so it's best to book early. Sarah and Gilo teach in a way which is engaging and sensitive, particularly to any new to singing, and their workshops involve humour and a spirit of fun. They always bring out the best in a group of singers. The songs will be drawn from many sources, some upbeat and jazzy, some gentle and meditative; something for everyone. This year the focus will be on songs for the heart.
You can expect to smile a lot, maybe even cry a little, make connections with others through the power of the voice, and leave feeling your body electric with harmonic energy. No need to read music or even think of yourself as an experienced singer to enjoy this day. Just bring your voice and help us raise the rafters!

01-12-18 Dorset Carols. A Workshop for Singers and Instrumentalists
Cranborne Facilitator: Dave Townsend

Dave Townsend presents a workshop singing and playing Christmas music from the old West Gallery bands of Dorset that provided the music for many rural parish churches in the 18th and 19th centuries, a mix of powerful voices, strings and wind instruments, with vigorous rhythms, soaring counterpoint and strange harmonies. At Christmas they would go round the parish singing outside al the houses in the village, as described by Thomas Hardy in Under the Greenwood Tree.

The carols for this workshop have been assembled from Dorset musicians' manuscript books, including those sung by Hardy's own family. Generally they suit a forthright and brisk singing style, and make a refreshing contrast to the familiar repertoire of the current standard carols. Like the old choirs, we will accompany them with any instruments that come to hand, strings, wind, brass, free reed or bass instruments

24-11-18 Mindfulness
Horton and Chalbury Workshop: Penny Nicholas

Mindfulness is a form of meditation that cultivates awareness of the present moment. It is about being awake and aware and living in the present rather than dwelling in the past or anticipating the future.

People often experience the following benefits from mindfulness:

  • Improved ability to cope more effectively with both short and long-term stressful situations
  • Increased ability to relax and experience calm
  • Greater energy and enthusiasm for life
  • Improved self-confidence and more acceptance of life as it is today.

During our day together we will have the opportunity to experience the varied ways in which we can bring mindfulness meditation into our daily life. There will be formal meditation practices that involve sitting, lying and walking. We will also look at mindfulness in our daily activities. Please wear comfortable clothing including a warm pair of socks. You will need to bring with you a floor mat and a blanket. My hope is that the day provides you will an insight into what mindfulness is and how it may help you. You will receive a CD with a couple of guided meditations on it. I look forward to meeting you.

31-03-18 NLP Practitioner and Master Practitioner Training
Horton Facilitator: Sarah Frossell

Over 7 weekends, in a friendly, supportive group environment, you will discover simple and powerful ways of enhancing what you do in every area of your life, personally and professionally. You will find yourself involved and participating from the beginning. We use what we teach. Our methodology is centred around Accelerated Learning, with participative group interaction, as well as the presentation of theory.

You will be expected to apply what you have been learning by creating a project. What you choose to do for your project and how you go about it will be very much up to you and the way you like to learn. We only suggest that it should involve an area that is important to you, something which can be either personal or work-related so that you can really enjoy putting it together.

We know that people learn most effectively when they are relaxed and having fun, so come prepared to join in and learn in ways you probably never imagined were possible at school!
